John Gomez, MA, CCC-SLP was born and raised in Northern New Mexico. He attended Colorado College, earning degrees in Philosophy, History, and American Ethnic Studies. He graduated from California State Los Angeles University with a master's degree in Communication Disorders in 2009. Presently, he works as a Speech Pathologist for the Los Angeles Unified School District. He is also a full-time faculty member at Cal State LA, where he teaches several courses, including Psychosocial Considerations and graduate-level Fluency Disorders. In 2017, CSULA honored John with the Lois V. Douglass Distinguished Alumnus Award.
John also moonlights as a filmmaker. In 2012 he established Keen Eye Productions. His first feature film, WHEN I STUTTER, had its world premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival on April 2, 2017. In total, WHEN I STUTTER has won 7 awards, been an official selection in 16 film festivals, and has been translated into 12 languages. In 2017, John was honored with the Emerging Filmmaker Award from the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival. John's most recent work includes serving as a stuttering consultant on the hit animated show MAYA AND THE THREE on Netflix.
